What is Hyperlipidemia?

If your doctor tells you that you have Hyperlipidemia, it means that you have too much lipids (fats) in your bloodstream. These lipids include cholesterol and triglycerides. Cholesterol can be further broken down into LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol) and HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol).

What are some of the complications of Hyperlipidemia?

Having high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides can lead to fatty deposits (plaques) in your arteries. Over time, theses deposits can build up and cause blockages of the arteries, thus increasing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.
